The commercial solar industry in South Africa has received a great boost with the recent announcement by Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba that the African Development Bank has approved the loan of $365 million to Eskom. This data will be translated into environmental information, made accessible for viewing via an online energy dashboard, and updated every 60 seconds. 'Eskom raises its tariff by 34%' scream recent headlines, 'and intend charging more over the next few years.' Regardless of Eskom's perceived and actual mismanagement, some say this is a positive move as we are now seeing the real costs of electricity and can take resolute action to fit a Solar powered system.

ABB to build solar energy plants for Eskom

Leading power and automation technology group ABB is to construct two solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants for South African national power utility Eskom Holdings.
