South Africa has an average of over 2,500 hours of sunshine annually. The country's solar radiation output is over twice that of Europe and one of the highest outputs in the world. This makes it a perfect climate for solar energy.

On Monday the 5th of December MediaClimate held a seminar titled “Media meets climate: A problem or a solution for social movements” at the Centre for Civil Society, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Howard campus.

Friday, the 2nd of December Earth Life Africa held an anti-coal seminar at the Centre for Civil Society, University of KwaZulu-Natal (Howard campus).

The 'Waste in Business Seminar 2011', organised by Alive2green, considered the detrimental effects of current waste disposal techniques on the environment by looking at improvements to current technologies and the advancement of renewable and sustainable solutions.

The new Waste Act and City of Cape Town's IWM By-law require more sustainable practices and safer solutions in commerce and industry.
