Imagine not being able to smile, or even eat, drink or speak normally. One in about every 1000 babies are born with either a cleft lip or palate - which can easily be repaired by a one hour operation that will help these children lead normal and happy lives.
Last year, Woolworths and MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet joined forces to raise funds for Operation Smile SA, a MyVillage beneficiary. The goal? To raise enough so that 100 South African kids can have cleft lip and cleft palate repair surgeries during 2013.
From 26 November to 25 December 2012, the first time on any day that customers swiped their MySchool or linked Woolworths card at a Woolworths store, Woolworths made a donation to the Operation Smile ‘Smile for Life’ campaign on customers behalf, in addition to the usual donation made to customers’ chosen beneficiaries — without costing them a cent.
Through the ‘Smile for Life’ campaign, Woolworths and MySchool managed to donate R500 000 to Operation Smile on customers behalf so that they can give 100 children a ‘smile for life’ during 2013.
every swipe counts
You can help schools, community projects, charities and environmental or animal welfare organisations through South Africa’s biggest community support and fundraising programme, because every time you swipe MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet card at Woolworths or other MySchool partners - they’ll donate a percentage of the value of your purchase to your chosen beneficiary. Every swipe counts - and it doesn’t cost you a cent!
Every month Woolworths alone donates well over R1 million to schools and charities this way!
As a MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet cardholder, you can also take advantage of WRewards on selected items at Woolworths - on food, clothing, accessories, homeware and more - with new offers in store every few weeks. Simply swipe your card before your purchases are rung up and see the difference on your till slip.
