Your support makes a difference

By supporting WWF, you contribute to a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. Our country is home to some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes and an abundant diversity of unique flora and fauna. Precious ecosystems sustain us with fresh water and food. As you know, these natural assets are under threat and WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of our natural environment. We are making considerable gains in terms of ecosystem services that underpin social and economic wellbeing, and we are securing the remaining wilderness areas.

The network of biodiversity in our country is a major contributor to human health and wellbeing. Our efforts to build resilient communities and ecosystems cannot succeed without securing the biodiversity assets that underpin them. Likewise, WWF’s efforts in the areas of energy, climate change, carbon footprints and low-carbon development are targeted at shifting the country towards a low-carbon future for optimal job creation and social upliftment.

Take the journey of water

The Berg River Dam has strategic significance as a venue for Swim for Nature in that the water is the freshest of any dam in South Africa. This aids us in raising awareness around freshwater and where it comes from. Many people are unaware that water doesn’t come from a tap or a dam; water is provided by healthy and functioning ecosystems.

Only 8% of South Africa’s land area provides us with more than half our surface water. The Berg River catchment, which supplies the Berg River Dam with its fresh water is one of these special areas. If we can protect this 8% we will go a long way to ensuring water security for our water-scarce country.
