A truly South African experience of the senses awaits discerning art-lovers and buyers on the 5th of September 2013.
The Vineyard Hotel & Spa’s Fine Art Auction themed: “Southern Africa – An Indigenous Perspective – Old and Modern Masters” presents an opportunity to enjoy the very best that our country’s artists can offer, and in doing so, contribute towards the social upliftment of Cape Town’s children as well as preserving the environment.
The auction will showcase over 60 exquisite pieces of fine art in the Vineyard Hotel & Spa’s Conference Centre on Thursday 5 September 2013. Extremely rare works from legendary South African Masters like Pierneef, Boonzaaier and Claerhout joins a surge of new talent to present true gems from the bosom of South African creativity.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit the hotel group’s ‘Our Kids of the Cape’ fund which supports community upliftment programmes throughout the Cape Peninsula, as well as EarthCall’s re-forestation project “People’s Forest’ where, in partnership with the Cape Winelands UNESCO Biosphere, fruit-bearing trees are planted in townships.
Pieces by acclaimed South African artists such as Kevin Stanley, Nadia Kleyn, Paul van Rensburg, Hennie Niemann (Snr), Kobus Louw, David Botha, Derric van Rensburg, Dale Elliott and many others will be on auction on the evening.
Previewing of the art will take place from 12:00 – 18:00 in the hotel’s conference centre, followed by a cocktail function and enchanting performance by phenomenal South African performer, Luna Paige, from 18:00 – 19:00.
The auction itself kicks off at 19:00 and will be conducted by renowned auctioneer, Philip Powell of Powell’s Auctioneers.
The ‘Our Kids of the Cape’ social responsibility fund was established in March 2007 by the Vineyard Hotel & Spa and its sister hotels, Townhouse Hotel & Conference Centre and Oude Werf. The fund supports local community projects in education, health, HIV/Aids and feeding schemes for children across the greater Cape Town area. Guests of the three hotels are encouraged to contribute to the fund by adding a donation to their final account and this is then matched by the hotels Rand for Rand.
EarthCall’s vision is to plant trees in a global re-forestation scheme. Trees help reduce carbon dioxide and help prevent desertification wherever they are. The Vineyard Hotel & Spa is well known for its efforts to reduce the effects of consumption on the environment while inspiring environmental and social change.
