1st African Student Energy Summit
June 19, 2014 @ 8:00 am - June 20, 2014 @ 5:00 pm
The Student Energy movement in partnership with the Green Shift Africa is pleased to officially announce the 1st African Student Energy Summit (AfSES 2014) scheduled to take place on the 19th and 20th of June at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).
As one of the Regional Student Energy Summits, it will occur simultaneously with events in Europe, North America and Latin America, and link 300 African students with 1200 other students around the world.
With an increase of energy scarcity, global development, geopolitical tension and environmental damage, the energy crisis is the biggest challenge that our modern world faces. What we do now will forever define the energy landscape of our future. Our world is entering into a global energy transition, and students have the exciting opportunity to make their contribution. The global community is asking students to stand up and voice their ideas, making it clear that what they do today will have lasting effects on generations to come.
AfSES is advocating for a collective way of examining the problem. The energy problem is too expansive to solely weigh on the shoulders of economists, or scientists, or CEOs. The only way to solve this global issue is through an integrated approach. In order to solve the problem, we need to examine the technological, social and economic components.
The conference will invite the current leaders in energy to offer their experiences and expertise with the goal of informing students of the most relevant issues and developments taking place right now in the sector.
The theme of the 2014 Regional Student Energy Summits is “Powering the Future.” The African Student Energy Summit will challenge this group of multidisciplinary post-secondary students from across the continent to both question and understand the key energy issues within their region, and to further comprehend them within the larger context of the existing and future global energy dynamics. Delegates at the inaugural African Student Energy Summit will have the unique and exciting opportunity to connect with an intimately local and extensively global network of driven individuals looking to make a difference in the energy sector.
