15:00 - 17:00: John D. Liu talk at conference centre
Join us for a talk/discussion with ecologist, filmmaker and educator John D. Liu. He’ll be discussing his work to date with a focus on what an optimally functioning ecosystem should look like. Diving deep into hydrological cycles, soil fertility, and accumulated biomass, John will also offer a window into his latest ventures Ecosystem Restoration Camps and the recently released Holy Grail of Restoration.
This is an invitation to everyone who cares about humanity’s future on earth. Join us for a fascinating discussion that has the potential to springboard ideas, develop a collective understanding and to encourage local and large scale changes in behaviour in order to break out of the current economic stranglehold. One-fourth of the world’s land mass is seriously degraded from centuries of human activity. Liu’s talk details how natural ecological systems are evolutionary systems in their scale and how we, as a common humanity, urgently need a paradigm shift from traditional economics to an economy that’s based on ecological thinking.
To change the way we engage with global landscapes we need to fully understand ecological functions on a planetary scale. We need to evolve and act as a species to return life to desertified and degraded lands and, in turn, save our planet. Liu believes we can achieve this through building regenerative communities and kickstarting large scale ecosystem restoration - and he’s working to show the world how.
