Rock Star Party & Toy Convoy for Little Cancer Fighters

Inspired by Somerset baby Reece’s battle with cancer, the Somerset 1 dynamic Facebook group is dedicating their first birthday party, the Rock Star Party, to raise funds for the Little Fighters Cancer Trust (LFCT) on Saturday, 13 December at the Nameless Pub.

The group, started by Stephen Leppan, prides itself on the spectacular events it holds to raise funds for charity. Starting with a Toy Convoy a convoy of truckers from the Western Cape Truckers Association will meet at the N2 Engen garage at 15:00. They invite children to come along for a ride in the trucks as they proceed, collecting new toys, for the LCFT Christmas project.

The trucks will drive through the Somerset West CBD to the Mondeor garden restaurant on the N2.

At Mondeor the truckers will hand their gifts to Little Cancer Fighters Trust. Members of the public are welcome to meet the trucks and come enjoy a great afternoon with the kids.

Within a mere two days of the Toy Convoy being posted on the Somerset 1 Facebook page, there were already over 20 truck drivers and trucking companies who have confirmed their involvement.

“We want to make this an annual event, and will be building up to match the popularity and size of the annual Biker’s Toy Run,” said Hannes van der Merwe, a representative of Western Cape Truckers.

The evening of the same day at 21:00, the Rock Star Party kicks off at the Nameless Pub in Main Road, Somerset West for an evening of entertainment. Live music from local bands Wild Lettuce, Boomerang, Prism and The Inside Job – top DJ’s, magician Adri Norton and Bikini Babes will rock the house.

Jordan Pelser, a 4 year old old boy who bravely fights Burkitt’s Leukaemia - a very scarce and extremely aggressive cancer.

There will also be promotions and spot prizes and a photo booth. Most of the event is sponsored by local businesses, including the venue. The Somerset West 1 Facebook page administrators have networked on social media, and an incredible event, which will see up to 500 people dancing and donating at the same time, has been pulled together with the generosity of the local community.

VIP tickets are sold ahead of time only, at R150.00 per person, with seating in the newly renovated VIP section of the Nameless Pub. There are still a few sponsorship opportunities for local and regional sponsors to become involved with. ALL proceeds of this event will be donated to the Little Fighters Cancer Trust.

Little Fighters Cancer Trust, situated in the Drakenstein raise funds for children suffering from cancer and their families across the country. The assistance to children with cancer is not only extended via the family unit, but they also offer support to those in Paediatric Oncology Hospital Wards, as well as Places of Safety. Within a short span of time, the Little Fighters Cancer Trust had grown to reach over 800 children with cancer from across South Africa.
