Rocking The Daisies 2015

October 1, 2015 @ 8:00 am - October 4, 2015 @ 5:00 pm

Rocking the Daisies is going all out for its 10th birthday this year. The international acts so far announced are Australia’s beloved Cat Empire, British indie rockers The Kooks and German folk duo Milky Chance.

Promising a huge party and awesome overseas acts, SA’s greenest music fest’s decade anniversary is sure to be a memorable event. This epic long weekend takes place from 1 - 4 October 2015 at the Cloof Wine Estate in Darling.

The Kooks graced our beautiful shores in 2013 as part of an exclusive brand campaign to a select few who were lucky enough to get tickets – and they were met with rave reviews – but left many fans distraught about missing out. In the months following the release of their latest critically acclaimed album, ‘Listen’, they have been enjoying a string of sold-out tour dates, confirming their status as one of the best live bands around.

The album comes after a three-year hiatus and represents a bold change from their very distinct alternative, indie-rock sound. Grounded in African funk and produced by young hip-hop pioneer Inflo, it has been labelled as the ‘album of their lives’.

Speaking about the album, frontman Pritchard says: “To me this album is about pure expression. Even the way we made the album felt fresh. We were really listening to what was going on around us, picking up ideas. The whole thing was much more natural.”

Last year’s Daisies saw MGMT, Rudimental, Al Bairre, Jeremy Loops, the Crystal Fighters and Shortstraw take to the stage, along with many other fantastic acts. For one unforgettable weekend, the Summer of Love vibe came back to the Cape. People danced and rejoiced and we did a breathless write-up here.

From the Beat Barn with its folklore flavour to the Electronic Stage with its hypnotic energy, there’s something for everyone, no matter what your musical taste may be. In 2014 there were even fantastic comedy acts entertaining the masses at the Lemon Tree Stage, which fans hope will return in 2015.

Other festival features include the Food Village, Traders Market, Daisy Den and The Green Village.

Environmental audit and impact assessment

A full, comprehensive eco audit is performed each year and is undertaken by an independent organisation – Steadfast Greening. Daisies aim to be as close to a carbon neutral event as possible by reducing where possible and off-setting any carbon that was expended in the production of the festival.

This audit covers procurement to production and direct production of the festival itself and the transport to and from. Water, waste, carbon, energy are all areas that are monitored.

The implementation of these Green Goals are monitored and evaluated so that lessons learned can be captured and improvements made. The organisers also provide an open and transparent report to the general public. These PDF documents are available for download here.

“We aim to host a premier music and lifestyle festival in an environmentally and socially responsible manner under the motto of ‘play hard, tread lightly.'”

The green goals of Rocking the Daisies are an integral part of the organisation of the festival in an eco-friendly and sustainable way and have been developed over the last few years.
