The trees were planted through the Wildlands Conservation Trust. The project aims to teach children and adults how to grow trees. The children and adults, referred to as "tree-preneurs" can then trade the growing trees for food, clothing, agricultural goods and tools or school and tertiary fees. These trees are then planted back into communities or in the Wildlands forest restoration projects.

The Conference of Energy Ministers in Africa €“ a two-year old institution recognized by the African Union and donors as the official voice of Africa's energy future €“ recently met for the second time and released a new declaration that can fairly be called double-speak. Since 2004, the Responsible Soy project has successfully promoted responsible soy production in the Santarem area in the Brazilian state of Pará, where Cargill has a soy terminal, by helping soy farmers comply with the Brazilian Forest Code. The success of the collaboration between TNC and Cargill is evident from the reduction in illegal deforestation in the farms participating in the project since 2006, reaching near zero deforestation in most farms.
