Corporate social investment is one of the most effective ways to promote change and growth in our society.
Spur Foundation, supported by Spur Group, collaborates with a variety of charities to drive home their core value of generosity and make a difference in the lives of less fortunate individuals and communities. One of the charities they support is Sisanda FunDaytion.
Sisanda FunDaytion is a non-profit organisation working with volunteers to influence the lives of disadvantaged children in South Africa through recreation and fun. Their vision is a world in which all children can experience the joy of being children and have the chance to laugh, run, jump and play. Through their programmes they harness the energy of volunteers, like Spur Foundation, to help children enjoy the wonders of the world they live in.
Recent activities include:
- A fun day out at Muizenberg for the children from Ncedolwethu Edu-Care Center in Mfuleni, which is run by Florence Dodovu for abused and abandoned children from the neighbourhood. The kids were treated to a day of waterslides, swimming and put-put, and Spur took care of lunch – burgers enjoyed al fresco.
- A Youth Day Carnival at St Joseph’s Convalescent Hospital. This interactive games fair saw Sisanda and Spur Foundation volunteers take hands to bring joy and fun to little patients. Armed with a packet to be filled, a booklet of tickets and large smiles, the children set off with their volunteers to have their faces painted, get a balloon animal made, meet some special guests and make some new friends. From jumping castles, fresh-popping popcorn, seedling potting, cupcake decorating, sporting skills and a host of games including pop-a-prize, hoop shoot, tyre toss, go fish and lucky dip to name a few, the children had a marvellous time winning prizes, treats and Sisanda Funny Money which could be exchanged for more toys and prizes at the Treasure Store. The Spur Foundation volunteers helped with the set-up, took care of lunch and visited with the children.
- A Pirate Adventure for the children from Orphan Care in Westlake. The kids were kitted out in pirate gear and treated to a day of nautical fun, which included tugboat rides, a go on the Cape Big Wheel, seal sightings and plenty of educational info about the ocean and its creatures. Santa Ana Spur treated the kids to a nice, hearty lunch and a treasure chest cake.
But Spur Foundation’s involvement doesn’t stop there. The group also contributes on more a more tangible level by sponsoring skills training and craft materials. Recently the Sisanda team benefitted from a session with Spur’s Digital Brand Manager, who gave them some insight as to the best ways in which to promote their cause using social media.
